You rock Radio cab.

We had a German newsreader staying with us.
She managed to befriend Olive and asked her to help arrange a 4 am cab to the airport.
She gave Olive all the deets in broken English and Olive made the call.
Radio cab was so nice to Olive.
I could hear the radio cab lady telling Olive "4am is only a few hours so get some sleep ok?" Olive said she would and she did.
Thanks Radio cab

We got home today soaked and face melted after rocking a party appearance.

We got home today soaked and face melted after rocking a party appearance.
We could have worn raincoats but we purposely don't. When folks in traffic see us drenched in bad weather they lose their minds.
People honk, yell and encourage us the entire commute. Normally they only do that for most of our commute.
It's a profound delight to make those folks so happy.
We do pick our moments and do this sparingly.
The gear and threads can only take so many torrents.
Also this is how George Washington died.
He got sick after a long horse ride in the rain. We ain't going down like that.
All warm and dry now.
Hope you are too.

Thanks! It's a great town to be a clown.

Leaving the house is always fun when my boy is around.

He is 12. Old enough to be home alone.
I tell him,
"Olive and I are going to the hardware store, Be back soon. You are in charge."
Then I give him extended instructions.
"Guard the house with your life, if you die,
then my bike is in charge,
if the tallbike perishes then my guitar is third in command."
By now he is grinning as he asks what if the guitar dies.
"No problem, We will be back by then Sport, thanks for looking out."
We take sentry duty real serious around here.

Meanwhile...we couldn't make it to a personal appearance. They asked Olive to make them a giant balloon Narwhal instead.

Eavesdropping on my boy

My son is having a sleepover with his fellow 12 year old, a dude called "Skunk"".
Last night they suddenly stopped before ascending the stairs and my boy says "Skunk, do you smell a real skunk?
He replied "I do but the chances of a real skunk being in this house is remote at best. I think it's Marijeewanna. The scent is virtually identical."
They were standing next to my coat.
I wanted to disagree but if it smells like a skunk...

This house wouldn't be renting rooms if the owner (who lives here too) hadn't been in a car crash.

Massive med bills messed up her nest egg. Gotta rent rooms to keep the bills paid but what an amazing spot she created. Living in a nice crib keeps our standards up and diplomacy is what clowns do so we are way happy. We are perfect for this real life sitcom.

1922 bungalow in and outs

Japan in the house. An adorable couple just arrived. They are cyclists who are touring this country on thier bikes.
It's a riot overhearing Olive Rootbeer communicating with them.
They don't know each other's language but it's still working out.
We recently had folks from Dallas Texas in one room and a couple from San Antonio in the other. I call them "metro-texans" because they are adept at taking buses and don't throw pizza crusts in the recycling.
Lately we have hosted pot smoking oldsters from the midwest,
 Middle Eastern folks on honeymoon,
 Euginians here for a show,
Californians and lots of Canadians.
My favorite thing to say before locking the door at night is
"Are all the guests in for the evening?"
That's fun to say as a fake employee.

Choco-Russian-French toast.

The other day Olive brought home some chocolate sour dough bread from a Russian market.
I decided to try it today betwixt gigs.

Here I'm saturating it with cauterized chicken menses. Chocolate, Russian, French toast.

Scrumptious.

Sorry kid, too small. We would like to see a lot more of you.
Like literally double your size a few times and try again,

new digs debrief

It's interesting adjusting to our move from the old place. We spent many year directly in harms way. Living by the Safeway bottle return was no picnic but it was all we knew for almost 10 years.
It didn't start that way.
We used to have a vibrant community.
Then most of our neighbors were classed out.
Now all that was left were the new middleclass folks and the chronically desperate.
We felt compelled to help the people as much as we could but then withdrew when it got really bad.
Now we have to understand how not to always have the heightened sense of awareness.
The new place offers safty, comfort, we can actually see the stars and have a yard.
But in our heads we are still by the bottle return.
Hope this survivor's guilt fades soon.
An odd side effect of the new place: sleeping.
We used to only sleep a few hours a night but now in the relative safety of our new place, we found ourselves sleeping in and actually being late for gigs. Oops better not get complacent.

We moved away from all my coffee haunts.

It was decided that I need to get a coffee pot for me to make it my-damn-self.
I used to have the standard Portland hook-up where it was free.
We don't do many cafe gigs anymore so it was time. I'm afraid we over-fixed the problem though.

I got this mocha-pot from Village Merchant.
It works...too well. In the cafe i get 20 oz.and a refill.
Now it's wide open.
The coffee that this instrument makes is A-Frikkin-mazing and flows all day.
I keep returning to the light like a bug.
This morning I've have had so much coffee that I can now summon humming birds with my mind.
Too much of a good thing.
I'm doing a baking project to help rid myself of the superfluous birdies
...seems like the correct tweetment.
